TWD: Chocolate-Banded Ice Cream Torte

IMG_1087

For this week's TWD we didn't have to make our own ice cream, but I just couldn't resist after Carla from Chocolate Moosey introduced me to the idea of making ice cream without a maker. Despite being extremely time consuming from the regular stirring required every half hour, it was a lot of fun. I guess it was totally worth seeing the custard slowly and I stress, slowly transform into luscious ice cream.

I got quite the workout from vigourously whisking the mixture to ensure creaminess and preventing ice crystals from forming. At least I was able to make the most of the limited exercise I do though... right Adam? With such a soft ice cream, I decided to form them in muffin cups to avoid having to deal with the mess of cutting up slices. Although it was a lot of fun, I can't wait to get an ice cream maker... not that I didn't love doing it the old fashioned way!

  3. Wow, I can't believe you did that without a maker! You did a great job, Steph :)

By the way, I can't join until I get the book. I've managed to order it online but I'm still waiting... *fidget, fidget*

  4. Steph that idea with the cupcake pan is great. It makes everything more individualized, and who doesn't like having their 'own' special something?

Haha I laughed at your ice cream exercise part... I just hope you switched arms once in awhile, ya know to even yourself out :)

Thanks for compliment on my blog. I'm a computer clueless kid too, so I just used the templates I found on the internet. You can google search for some, and they give you instructions on how to download and install them.

Just always, always save your site template first, so you can go back to "normal" if you mess it up.

  6. Great idea with the cupcakes! What kind of ice cream did you end up making? Yes it is a slow process, but mine hardened like normal "hard" ice cream. Glad to see you gave it a try! :D
