TWD: Granola Grabbers

cookiegranolagrabbers

My first TWD since coming back and boy, was I excited it didn't involve pastry crust or fruit! Fun and all, pastry dough can be a little annoying to make when the food processor has to be lugged out and cleaned. I didn't have granola or peanuts so I subbed old fashioned oatmeal and pecans instead. Compared to what I'm usually make, this was one loaded cookie with nuts, raisins, cocunt and wheat germ. When it comes to add-ins I'm definitely not the 'adventurous' type... I've never even mixed nuts and chocolate together. Anyway, that's why I love TWD because I get to try things I would've never done on my own. Overall, it was a good cookie, but not something I would go crazy over. It could have been my fault for using regular oats and ending up with an oaty cookie rather than one with actual oat chunks. This may be my shortest post, but the olympics are on... Go Canada!

Thanks to Michelle of Bad Girl Baking for choosing this recipe, which can be found on her site and in Dorie Greenspan's Baking: From my Home to Yours. Don't forget to checkout the TWD Blogroll!

  7. Mmmmm. I love me some pecans. Good sub with the oats. I was thinking that too but then decided on some kashi cereal instead. Maybe give a cereal a try next time? Cookies look yummy. Great job!

  8. I skipped this week because nobody in my house would really eat these. Great job on yours! :D

Also, you don't need to buy an ice cream maker. You realllyyyyy should check out http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2007/07/making_ice_crea_1.html

The only downfall to this technique is you have to beat it every 30 minutes so you have to do it on a day you are not going to leave the house for awhile, but I promise it will be worth it!

  12. Yes, I've tried this method with both my blackberry sour cream ice cream and vanilla ice cream. I have never owned a churner, so I honestly don't know. I do know if you let it freeze without beating it, ice crystals will form, so you beat it to make it as smooth as possible. Both times I've had smooth ice cream. I suppose a churner is like having a bread maker (which I do own). You can make it by hand, but the machine allows you to walk away and not worry about doing anything except taking it out when finished. Oh and make sure you use a plastic or metal bowl because I believe glass may crack. I use a plastic bowl.

  15. This is a really dense cookie. If I were stranded in the Andes, where I had run to escape the trauma of having my heart broken AND being kicked out of the circus in the same week, I'd want a bunch of them with me.

    Hypothetically.
