New Moon: Werewolf Cupcakes

cupcakesnewmoon (2)

I can't believe New Moon is finally coming to theatres in 2 days! When I saw the werewolf cupcakes in Hello Cupcake, I knew I would eventually get around to making them. Even though I'm on Team Edward, I had to make something to support Twilight. It only took me forever to try and attempt these because I was afraid they would turn out looking more like blobs. The piping part actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be even though my super hot hands kept softening the frosting. I would have loved to use all butter, but I think the little bit of shortening was necessary for stability. Store bought frosting might have been easier for piping because of its consistency, but for something that I spent hours working on, it felt like a waste to have to eat the canned stuff. Instead, I kind of came up with my own, beginning with a 1:3 ratio of shortening to butter and then adjusting the other ingredients for taste and consistency. One of the best things about Hello Cupcake is, you don't really have to buy special tools. I wasn't really up for making my own ziplock piping bag so I used the Wilton tip 352

I know a lot of people were disappointed with Twilight, but I think New Moon will be a gazillion times better. It seems to have a more 'real movie' feel to it and they got rid of that annoying blue tint!

  6. Oooh! Fun New Moon cupcakes! What a great way to celebrate the big opening. I liked Twilight, although I didn't think the vampires were quite gorgeous enough. Can't wait to see New Moon! I thought the book was better than Twilight.

  7. A Plus for you! These look like they come straight from Cake bosses bakery! I love them. New Moon was mine and my husbands favorite book out of the series..for the action it provided. We are planning to go Sat. I don't want to be with ALL the peeps on Friday...getting to old for that!

  17. OMG, this is freaking hilarious. I am no Twilight fan (though I did see the first film - what blue tint??) but I can appreciate others' devotion and I love this idea.

Team Edward... vs Team... what? I have so much to learn! ;)

  18. Love your Werewolves. You could make a full moon by rolling a yellow-tinted frosted cupcake in yellow sugar too. Love the comments from Twilighters! You guys are serious!

    Happy cupcaking,

  27. Those are hilarious! You have to do those again for Halloween for sure.

That chocolate cake recipe brings back memories. It was the first chocolate cake I ever made.

  28. Love the cupcakes, Steph! I still haven't seen Twilight yet, or read the books. I'm so behind!

  29. These are so cool. And who the hell was disappointed with Twilight? Everyone I know loved it. But they do say that New Moon was even better. I thought Edward was so not good looking until I watched the movie then all I could think was 'bring on the hickies'. Anyways, I am very impressed with these cupcakes. Have a great Thanksgiving Steph!!!

  30. Just saw it last night! Loved this movie better than the first! Love your wolf pack cupcakes

  31. I probably won't see the movie, but I've heard good things from my girlfriends. They said it was better than the 1st one.

Nice job on the piping skills. You may be a little timid in the straying from the recipe thing, but you're def adventurous with that pastry bag :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ooh great looking cupcakes!! The piping job is great!

  33. Great job, Steph! You should open your shop with these, I'm sure those pre-teens (and sweet teeth like me) would go crazy over them :)

  34. WOW! They are SO adorable! What a good looking dessert to put on the table for celebration! :)

  35. How absolutely fantastic of you! Now that's a fan for you. I agree, if you have hot hands you need that shortening despite the butter's fabulous taste. Way to go, I love them!

Thank you so much for your comment, I can't always leave comments either but I love seeing what you are up to. Amazing.

I think you're right, they got a male director and made the movie more action-based to draw more guys to the theatre but come on, how greedy can you be? Like you're not already making enough money and risking on blowing it because the female audience isn't enough? Thanks a lot!

You're right, I was amazed that they included little details, I so wasn't expecting that and it took me right back to the books.

And thank you so much for confiding in me you also hated the last book. I am feeling very vindicated and less sore over my absolute disappointment in that book. OK, done writing my own book here! LOL. Thanks again.

  36. Hey, those are awesome! You have such a fine eye for detail.
