Without the crust, I was left with a baked apple, probably not what the parisan apple tarlet should have been like. Even the brown sugar that I sprinkled on top seemed to have disappeared during the baking process. I used the toaster oven for my single ramekin dessert. Sometimes I get worried about putting ramekins in the toaster oven because I think they're going to explode. Maybe it's because the coils are so close to the bowl... I don't know... but I always end up putting them in a pan of water. I'm not sure if that even does anything or if I do that because that's how we creme brulees are made. Anyway...

ReplyDeleteI have to say I think you missed the best part...but then again, you didn't spend $5 just to have overly warm puff pastry stuck to everything it touched! I love your idea...and I'm glad there were no explosions.
ReplyDeleteI love baked apples so it looks fantastic to me. Also, there's the added benefit that it's really healthy without the puff pastry! I haven't made mine yet but I'm planning on having one for dessert this evening.

ReplyDeleteAs for the tart pan, mine has a removable bottom. I got mine at Target (not sure if they have Targets in Canada). Worst case scenario, there are two kitchen stores in Grove City Outlets that have tart pans, both regular and mini. I'm asking for the mini pans for Christmas.
The apple does look good! At least you saved a few hundred calories from the buttery puffed pastry!

ReplyDeleteMmm I'd totally eat just the baked apple. My cousin showed me a trick once where she crushed up red hots (the cinnamon candies) and sprinkled them on top before baking... OMG the best spiced apple ever! Lol :D

ReplyDeleteYou can "bake" an apple in the microwave in a matter of a minute or two. It's good! Sprinkled with a little sugar and a little butter and some nuts. It's a good, healthy treat!
